Nurturing Expectant Mums
In today’s western cultures, the typical pregnancy focuses on the baby to the exclusion of the woman herself. The entire experience has become more about preparing for the baby’s arrival than looking closely at oneself to prepare emotionally for all of the changes that creating a new life brings. Modern life is busy and the sacredness of pregnancy and birth, as a rite of passage and a spiritual journey, is no longer practised or honoured, it has been forgotten.
“Traditional societies have typically regarded pregnancy as a sacred period in a woman’s life – a time when the pregnant woman must be treated with special care and reverence by the other members of her society. As the carrier of new life, she embodies the miracle of creation in her very being…” ~ Ina May Gaskin
Health Benefits Of Massage & Reflexology
Pregnancy massage and reflexology can help women to stay loving towards their body whilst pregnant. Especially with all the hard work that their body is doing with growing a baby inside them. During a session, I hold space for each mum to be, allowing them to deeply relax and reconnect with themselves. Addressing any hidden anxieties that may be present, as well as addressing any physical symptoms. In creating this space, you begin to relax and unwind, allowing any tensions to melt away. Some of this is purely physical discomfort, but at other times, there will be an emotional holding that creates the tension. Talking and being listened to are a part of the process of healing. Bringing this level of release to a mother’s awareness can help her towards a lovely transition into motherhood.
Every pregnancy is different, every woman is different so rest assured that you will not be offered a ‘one size fits all’ sessions. You will be encouraged to lie on your side, supported with a range of pillows and cushions to enable to you be as comfortable as possible.
